Why isn't this game fully patched through the respective launcher? Overall, if you're looking for a good single-player campaign, look elsewhere. For some reason it also prompts you to update every time, or else you cannot play online. After each mission my game would load for ages (on a 3,5GB/s m.2 ssd) and after 2 of the 4 missions it even got stuck loading endlessly, forcing me to hard exit the game. The subtitles are also awful, they have no shadow or contrasting background and since one mission is in snowy Norway and the others are in muddy terrain with loads of reflections of clouds and specular highlights, the subtitles are often completely illegible. My French is nowhere near good enough to understand someone from Senegal, let alone during an action-sequence. Finally I have to say that while I appreciate the spoken dialog being in the correct languages, it does mean I'll miss large parts of the story if you play it during frenetic gunfights. Because cowering behind a wall for 15 seconds hoping nobody will come there, because the AI will just bumrush you if they're close, isn't fun or interesting. It takes forever for your heatlh to start regenerating, in 1 they gave you health-packs and that was a much better decision. They also have perfect aim from hundreds of yards away, distances at which you, the player, cannot possibly hope to hit anything. The AI is extremely bad though, after you've been spotted they just know where you are, even if you've been out of sight and have moved since, they still hit you immediately after you pop out from behind a wall. With a weird dissnonance between the preaching of how awful war is and at the same time having the player control some sort of super-natural warrior that kills hundreds of enemies. Battlefield 1 and V have this pretentious style of story-telling that really rubs me the wrong way. It's just that the writing and mission structure is extremely poor. The gunplay feels good, of course, and the game looks and sounds good. I don't quite get why they chose this route, as the stealth isn't good at all, and the multiplayer isn't stealth-focused so this doesn't really gel with that. On medium I just ignored this and went in guns blazing, but it was painfully obvious this wasn't the intended method. About 75% of the campaign is meant to be played while crouching, stealthily avoiding most enemies. After playing Battlefield 4, 1 and V, I can safely say they're all mediocre at best, and that I liked V the least by far. This article has been expanded to include a few more Battlefield games.30% PCThis review is only for the campaign. Even after the release of Battlefield 2042, previous entries have remained active on platforms like Steam, some of which even outperforming their more modern sibling. Dropping players on expansive battlegrounds largely ripped from history, at its best, Battlefield is ambitious, intense, and visceral. Updated Apby Mark Sammut: Battlefield has been around for nearly two decades, and while EA's IP has had its share of misses, the franchise has also produced some of the greatest FPS games of all time. So, how do these Battlefield games rank according to the aggregator website Metacritic? Which is considered the best Battlefield game of all time? Conversely, which title ranks at the bottom of the pile? Also, how long are their single-player campaigns? With that being said, Battlefield has been a constant competitor of Activision's Call of Duty franchise, with both titles rivaling in sales, gameplay, single-story campaign, and online experiences. Since the title's first release, Battlefield 1942, back in 2002, EA's FPS franchise has produced more than 10 main games with plenty of expansion packs.
